Are we ready for cyber attacks?

Computers are an enormous part of daily life from street lights working properly to, banking, and even the one on your desk at work. I am not so sure we are ready for this type of attack. Being attacked in this way is a very big possibility. Two years ago President George W. Bush launched a cyber security initiative that never got off the ground, at this point there is no one “in charge” of this potential disaster. We have no “game plan” on how to avoid it either, which scares me quite a bit. Think of the destruction that could be done to our country, a cyber attack could cause failure of banking and even national electrical problems. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff is predicting cyber attacks will become a routine warfare tactic in the future. In addition to the threats we already face from criminal or terrorist attackers.
In order to become more prepared against something like this ‘billions of dollars must be spent by both government and industry” said representative of Maryland, Dutch Ruppersberger, Democratic chairman of intelligence sub committee of technical intelligence. We have got to take several drastic measures to ensure our country’s safety. At this moment I think our new president should make this a major priority to keep us safe. Let’s hope our government finds someone to put in charge of this situation and take care of it sooner rather than later.
