“Beware Of Online People Search Scams!
I Can’t Believe The Hours I’ve Wasted On These So Called People Search Sites……”
If there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you can’t always believe what companies claim on their sites. It’s ridiculous and I’m frustrated to be honest. That’s one of the reasons why I created this site.
For Dating… and Craigslist, too
Here’s a specific example. People searches are incredibly beneficial if you’re dating. With all the recent news (Craigslist Killing, Sex Offenders and Child Abductions), YOU BETTER check out your date first! You also should check out anyone you bring in your home. Shopping on craigslist can be easy and usually works out well, but do yourself a favor and check out the name and address of the person who is coming to your home to pick up that baby chair or extra table for sale. Today, more than ever, there is no excuse NOT to.
So, I’m A Cheapskate… 
I tried to do the Cheap/Free approach at first. It’s kind of funny actually to think of how much time I wasted. Well, not really!?! So picture this…here I am doing searches on Google for this guy I just interviewed to do some bookkeeping for me. Then, I think I found him. I click on the link and it’s another search box wanting me to search for him again. So, I do and they want me to purchase before I see anything. So, I keep looking and finally figured out that I’m not going to find zilch until I purchase one of these things. I went through about 10 of them before I finally found the data. Then, I start going through my list to get a refund. Do these companies even know what in the world customer service is????

Anyway, that was a debacle and I learned the hard way. But, the site I found the data on was Net Detective. I was actually surprised because it was a fair price according to the other sites out there. I got unlimited searches. Which by the way helps alot because some of those guys charge you up front then want to charge you everytime you search. Sheesh! One of the other things I thought was really cool with Net Detective was that they gave me a phone number to call if I had trouble. So, I couldn’t find this one person I was looking for info on and wanted to see if there was a better way. Rather than telling me the better way they actually looked up the record for me. Is that cool or what?

In the runner-up spot, with very good customer care, great U.S. converage, and a pretty good size database is Complete Detective. Between these two services, you really cannot go wrong.
There are lots of third place winners, but too many to name. You are free to search google and go through the top 10 links you see. But don’t waste your time… I’ve already done that and I’m here to help you out.

I just wanted to let you know that I have used Net Detective and it’s a great site. I was looking up a guy for my daughter and realized I wasn’t sure how to spell his name since it was an unusual name so I called them and asked them what to do and they actually helped me find him without any extra charge. If I need to find any one else again, I’ll be sure to use Net Detective.

Yes I am a mother of twin boys 3yrs old and their father is ordered to pay child support well he switched jobs and hasnt paid in over a year. The state it was ordered in (wisconsin) and the state I live in (georgia) can’t find an address for him. All you need is his SSN number, if you have it. You can track just about any one if you have their SSN.

Great question. I just helped a friend run a background check on a guy she knew from high school and had rekindled a relationship with via Facebook. Meeting people online is so easy… I met my husband that way, no joke! But you absolutely have to be careful. Why not use an online tool to check him out? Give one of the tools above a try. If it doesn’t work out, you can still get a refund.

I wish I had done a back ground check before getting involved the guy was still married had a DWI and child Endangerment wow but nice guy I have been seeing him for a long time for all this to come to lite yhen I am dependant and hookrd on him he is a nice guy just dayed a younger girl who got him in trouble leaving her chil alone at a pool and drinking too much cost him alot in attorney fees & his X would not sign the divorce but from now on I will do a background check

thanks for the info; You most likely saved me a alot of time and $. I am hunting for some men that I was in VietNam with in 67-68. We have found quite a few alread and have a reunion every year. However some of them are very difficult to find and I was put in charge of doing all I could to find others. So I am going to follow your advice and if you gat anymore I will take it.

Go to military.com. Print out form SF-180. As a direct family member you are entitled to the records. Fill out the form and send it in. It may take a few months to get a reply. Good luck
You have to contact the Airforce Records Department and they should be able to help you. You have to have full name when he went in and came out. Date of birth and SSN. I pray you find all this out. I would love to get my fathers records. I pray as long as there was no fire where his records were then you should be able to get them. Help this helps you.

Hi Dona Marie, Contact the Veterans Affairs office in your home town or city. They will be able to help you get the records for you. I got my dad’s records from WWII and Korean Conflict for the VA’s aid and attendance help for my mother. I had the records in a week. Good Luck. Loloken
today things don,t work the way the should. contact you congressman ,your board of vets affairs, even contact the white house even millatry affairs . please do these things , i know how you feel . it really hurts . best of luck , you we’ll need it the government does’nt want you to know. thay dont want to pay out money . need help i’ll try to help.

I notice that information at many sites is out of date. Been looking for someone that’s married to current wife since 2006. So far info found relates to wife divorced in 2003, nothing about later marriage. Are all sites that out of date?

Not all sites are out of date, but no site is 100% up to date. Here’s why: let’s say your friend moved from Colorado to Maine in July. It might take several months to 6 months for the Colorado records to update. It might take just as long for the Maine records to update. So, the best way is to pick the database that is largest, and known that most of the time, you will find what you’re looking for. I hope this helps.

What this means is I am not going to cause you any problems. Now as for earning your trust, I will leave that to my readers to comment on. So it’s open season! Anyone care to comment?

Can one get records from Puerto Rico?
At the moment, I believe most public records services available online here in the states do not get updates from Puerto Rico. Not sure why, but it’s too bad. So, as far as I know, the answer is, no.

Is there a way to put out discrepancy ‘notes’ on search info? I recently had a debt collector incessantly calling ME looking for an ex-boyfriend from 20 yrs ago when I lived in Virginia! I caught the call this morning and I was aggravated then told them never to call back. But then i got curious and googled him. I finally found some info to tell me I got the right name but then I noticed they have me listed under ‘relatives’ with his last name (we were never married). I know it stems from a car that I co-signed for then he defaulted on right after high school. In the bank paperwork they never correctly listed my last name on the loan and the public court record stood the same way. So he’s listed as having lived up here in New Jersey when he never did. Talk about having a stupid mistake you made after high school haunt you for the rest of your life!
I can relate I feel like the master of making stupid mistakes that haunt you for the rest of your life. You are not alone so don’t feel bad.
With some sites like Net Detective and Complete Detective, you can call their customer service line and ask them to EDIT the data in their database. You might try this! Let me know how it goes.

Hi, you need to contact all 3 credit bureaus and write a short letter explaining that you have no legal ties to this person. They have to allow you 100 words and anyone who sees your file will have to read it. Stick to facts only. This may help. I continually have people calling here for a bill for my sister who died 13 yrs. ago. I tell them she is still dead.

i am looking for someone i havent seen in 13years how can i trust these sights they say free then hit u up with a credit card billing information u have too give and then u get something stupid like your adrees unknown or another credit card for billing saying the first one is know good meanwhile all that information dissapears and they dont give you a phone no. to reach them until you are a member when its suppose to be free.

it seems that everyone wants stuff that’s free. Well, the sites I recommend are not free. Instead, they are paid services with good reputations and honest business practices. At any point, you can call a toll-free number and reach someone should you have technical or billing issues. With FREE, I’m afraid you simply get what you pay for (or DON’T pay for).
